The 5 Best Playgrounds in Birtinya

Birtinya is one of the newer suburbs on the Sunshine Coast and its been spoilt for choice with options for parks and playgrounds. Many of the parks have water-views, fantastic play equipment for kids (and adults) and fantastic extra facilities such as BBQs, toilets and undercover seating areas.

Here are my Top 5 Playgrounds in Birtinya….

#1 The Big Kahuna at Prime Parade Birtinya

When we found this playground I was absolutely stoked. This is hands down the BEST playground in Birtinya and caters for kids all ages. It really is a park for everyone.

There are 3 different play areas, 2 BBQs, toilets, and plenty of seating areas so you can come and enjoy this park for 20 minutes or spend the day celebrating a birthday for your child./ catching up with family and friends.

The park features include a climbing frame, tunnel slide, 2x smaller slides for younger kids who cannot climb to the top, sandpit with 3 different pieces of equipment including water play and taps; swings including a baby swing, a swing of older children/adults, and a nest swing. It has so much variety and caters to all ages.

#2 Best Waterfront Park in Birtinya

This beautiful waterfront park is a real hidden gem. It’s not as accessible as other parks and playgrounds in Birtinya and caters more so to people on foot rather than a drive & play. That’s not to say there is no parking, but there isn’t direct parking around the park.

This lovely park has a massive climbing frame, see-saw, nest swing, and a supernova (the thing that spins on a 10-degree angle – yes I had to google that!).

It is water front and has a beautiful undercover BBQ & seating area, that is close enough to watch the kids play and you can enjoy the views & serenity.

There is also a toilet, water bubbler and poop bags for our furry friends.

Birtinya Island Park is located underneath the bridge at Regatta Boulevard. If you are driving to Birtinya via Regatta Boulevard you will drive across the bridge and it is located on your right. Continue towards the roundabout, do a U-turn, and park on the street in front of the chemist.

From there you will walk towards the bridge and take the path down towards the water. The toilets are the first thing you see, the park is on the left and towards the water there is BBQ’s and seating area.

TIP: If you need a coffee, pop into the chemist before head down to the park. It is nothing fancy but if you need a hit of caffeine you can definitely get it here.

#3 Game On: Table Tennis haven in Birtinya

This playground in Birtinya is a little different, not your typical park around the suburb. That is what makes it distinctive and unique in a suburb where a lot of parks cater to younger kids.

Sunshine Coast Council has done a brilliant job of incorporating animal artwork on the facilities such as the table tennis tables and it provides a unique space to Sunshine Coast residents.

This park is a little different, it has 4 table tennis tables & 4 handball squares both under massive shade cloths which makes such a difference to the heat of the area. It’s is a big area and the cloth covers it very well. To be fair we went in the middle of the day when the sun was above us, I am not sure how busy it gets so if you are there when the sun is coming in sideways I am sure there would be other tables and handballs courts available out of the sun. The one thing I love about this park and the table tennis tables is they are covered in beautiful artwork of Australian animals. It’s is these little details that really lift a park to another level.

Further down towards the water and there is a small Space Net or climbing net for kids to get busy and play around with.

At the water’s edge there are two BBQs, and undercover seating tables and chairs. Seriously TOP view!

There are also toilet facilities (wheelchair accessible), baby change room, bike stand, water bubbler.

#4 Animal inspired playground in Birtinya

Blink and you’ll miss it – This lush area of Birtinya has so many tree’s and shrubs surrounding the playground that if you are driving past you may nearly miss it.

This cute little playground is a winner with my 2 & 4 year old – it was a small slide, swings and animals mounds for jumping (especially good for those kids who are in the “jumping phase”). With a shade cloth to keep the sun away and toilets, this is a nice, simple park that you can be sure to entertain.

There is a beautiful grass area where plenty of locals play fetch with their dog and if you are interested in going further afield there are so small tracks to walk and discover.

Behind the park is a track that meets a small body of water. We’ve seen the same boat there when we have gone walking, people in kayaks and plenty of wildlife. *Be sure to put some mosquito repellant on if you head done some of these tracks*

If you are keen for a bit of a longer walk towards the end of Anchorage Drive (where the road meets Waterway Drive) there is another track which leads to a small stretch of sand and the lake.

#5 Unique ship inspired playground at Stockland Birtinya

Are you looking for something free, easy, and indoors to do today? Whether you need to escape from the heat or the rain, or perhaps you need to head to Coles or Aldi for some bread & milk then this is the playground for you.

There are always kids here at this playground, I know every time I come here to the food shop I end up spending at least 30 min + on each side of the shop here. Funnily, I have met many wonderful local parents at this playground.

There is a lot for the kids to play with and it is inclusive for older kids who frequently climb the ropes or the babies who crawl through the tunnels and play on the mounds.

And let us not forget the ICE CREAM truck, this is not a part of the playground but it absolutely should be. My kids can’t get enough of it!

While you wait for the rug rats to play there is abundance of choice of coffee, food and restaurants.

I’m not much of a coffee drinker but it seems the place to get coffees is Kebab Zone & Acai Brothers for all you coffee lovers.

The great thing about this playground is the comfy chairs surrounding the play space. For a shopping center, they are impressive, to say the least.
